I’ve been going through some growing pains lately.
I’ve realized that some people aren’t who I thought they were.
I’ve realized the fickle nature of my career and how frustrating and scary it can be.
I’ve realized that life is hard. Not always, but sometimes. And those sometimes suck.
I’ve realized that I have to be patient (not always my strongest virtue).
I’ve realized that you should only surround yourself with people who add to your life.
And the truth is, I have so many people who add to my life. My family should be given an award for their awesomeness, as should my husband. I have a network of amazing friends from all stages of my life and co-workers that I choose to voluntarily see, even when we’re not working.
I just have to remember that when I’m frustrated by certain people or a certain situation.
I may not have it all, but I certainly have enough.
(And with that said it’s time to indulge in some vanity and curl my hair in time for dinner with a few of those aforementioned amazing friends this evening.)
The pants are waaay too long but other than that, I love all of this. I need that cardi bad.
Everything from the ankles up (seriously, what’s with the length of those jeans?) is perfection.
I dragged Dubin and Mike to see The Blind Side with me this afternoon.
I’m just going to out us both as total saps and tell you that Dubin and I couldn’t stop crying from beginning to end.
Michael Oher’s story is incredible. I may be a Giants fan, but there’s definitely a player on the Ravens that I will be rooting for.
I’m with Nordstrom.

Today in Laney’s Awesome Hiatus: Recuperating from a craptastic run (seriously: shin splints, no motivation, every minute feeling like a lifetime) by watching Villanova’s first televised game of the season.
That’s right, y’all. My boys are back (led by senior Scottie Reynolds, above.)
Anyone up for a vacay?
That would be a resounding YES. Especially if we get to go back to the Don Cesar.
St. Pete = holy shit, WHO KNEW FLORIDA WAS SO EFFING BEAUTIFUL = never going to Miami again.
This makes my heart smile. I love Up.
I just bought this DVD. Even just seeing still frames from this movie warms my heart.
Today in Laney’s Awesome Hiatus: Dubin and I made like trust fund-ed Euros (um, minus the trust funds) and decided to spend a few leisurely hours in a cafe.
We chose the Grey Dog (the Carmine location) for huge chai spice lattes, glasses of wine, pecan pie and the above sandwich - the #6 (grilled chicken, pesto, roasted peppers, fresh mozz), which is #1 in my heart.
Sigh. Reality is going to hit hard when we eventually go back to work.
If I had to live off of only food for the rest of my life, it would probably be guacamole.
Agreed. And that looks like Rosa Mexicano guac to me. Alishan, come visit and we can have some.
Good afternoon.

He’s so cute when he’s ironing my clothes for me, isn’t he?
And this is why even though the Colts won that game (my husband is still grumbling about it), the Patriots are the true winners.
This afternoon, Mike and I headed out to Brooklyn. Well, Mike had to go to Brooklyn on Very Official Business Which I Cannot Disclose and I decided to tag along.
We ended up in Brooklyn Heights and you guys, it was love at first sight.
The promenade along the water, the shops, the restaurants, the painfully cute children, the brownstones - omigod, THE BROWNSTONES.
We stopped in a place called Connecticut Muffin for some coffee and a snack and I looked across the table at my husband and said “we will live here.”
This is huge - HUGE - for me, as I formerly used to think that it was Manhattan or nothing when it came to NYC.
But, oh Brooklyn Heights, you have so won me over. You instantly felt like home.
As I mentioned before, I saw this one on Friday evening.
She made me laugh so hard that I choked. On a nacho.
Ashley’s just so adorable and lovely and funny and smart that I couldn’t help myself from reaching across the table at random moments to pinch her. Because someone that cute just can’t possibly be real, right?
After we exited the pub, we spent 15 minutes alternately stalking Alishan, screaming into her voicemail and then screaming while actually talking to her.
To all the people in the vicinity at the time: Nope, hyenas didn’t invade New York. It was just us. Being our (slightly tipsy) selves.

Community instant reblog
This show just keeps getting better and better.
Also, seeing Joel McHale on TV twice a week (Community on Wednesdays; The Soup on Fridays) = awesome.
(I know no one really likes to read lists of what other people did during the weekend. This is mostly for posterity so that next year, around this time, when I cock my head to the side and look at Mike and say “wait, what did we do for your birthday last year?” I will have an answer.)
-Saturday I waded through the crazies in Port Authority to hop a bus to New Jersey. First stop was a baby shower, where I somehow managed to get tipsy at noon.
-My family wanted to take Mike out for his birthday, so we went to a delicious local restaurant on Saturday night. The best thing about going to fancy places with my parents (other than them picking up the bill) is that we always order appetizers, entrees and desserts (plus wine). There is no such thing as moderation when we’re all together.
-This morning Mike and I slept in, watching Meet the Press from the comfort of our bed. I then went out for a run (those of you who know me in real life are probably very confused as I am not a runner; more on my new addiction in another post) and proceeded to whine about my hurting muscles for the rest of the day.
-The weather was insanely perfect so we walked up to the New York Historical Society to see the “Lincoln and New York” exhibit. (My husband, just like my father, has a major fascination with our sixteenth president.)
-I made Mike his absolute favorite, lasagna. Lasagna that took THREE AND A HALF HOURS TO MAKE (ok, fine, an hour and a half of that was just the homemade sauce simmering on the stove).
-I also made cupcakes (vanilla cake, chocolate frosting; is there any other combination?)
-We ate dinner by candlelight. The entire apartment now smells like “fresh linen sheets” or something like that. I am a sucker for any scent that is billed as something that will smell like clean laundry.
-We’re now watching the Game of the Year (Manning vs. Brady). I’m a Giants fan but in this particular situation, I’m rooting for the Handsome One.
In sum, this weekend has been particularly perfect (it was kicked off by seeing Ashley on Friday; any weekend that starts with Ashley is bound to be good.)
